After ten years of existence, the Talents Buenos Aires faces the challenges of starting a new decade. Ever since it was created, its main goal was
to build a regional and international professional network, thus connecting professionals all over the world, and collaborating in the theoretical and
practical development in the film universe.
Ten years have passed, a generation of Talents BA participants have become established filmmakers, and the young people who have been part of this initiative today are in full professional development. Many of them have presented films in Bafici and different festivals around the world.
With a mission to keep training generations of filmmakers in the region, the Talents BA’s 11th edition aims to deepen the questions that were proposed in its origins: what does cinema mean to younger generations? How do you make a personal cinema avoiding standardized and aesthetically driven films that seem to be typical of Latin American cinema? And, above all, a question we should revitalize and update: what is independent cinema? Or, rather: independent from what, or whom?
For this reason, and continuing the tradition of picking a film title as a trigger, this edition of the Talents BA will be called Vagabond, as a way of
reflecting on the kind of cinema that is produced in the margins, both in aesthetic and production and distribution terms. In a few words, Vagabond aims to get future filmmakers to reflect, in the context where what we regard as independent cinema seems to be transforming into festival mainstream. That is, promote reflections on the changes within contemporary cinema.
The Talents BA is organized by the University of the Cinema in cooperation with the Berlin Film Festival (Berlinale Talents), the Buenos Aires International Film Festival (Bafici) and the Buenos Aires Lab (BAL). With the support of Mecenazgo BA, the Itaú Foundation, and Goethe-Institut Buenos Aires. More info: http://talentsba.ucine.
