The 14th edition of the Buenos Aires Lab, the project laboratory of BAFICI, will be held between April 15 and 17, 2016.
The BAL aims at supporting the development and production of Latin American cinema and focuses on first and second films in order to encourage emerging talents in the region.
This year, the BAL will be exclusively dedicated to the showcase of Work in Progress (WIP). We have carried out a selection of 10 projects, narratively and formally bold, which stand out in Latin American film production.
Participating directors and producers will receive valuable advice from industry professionals to help them design the distribution and commercialization strategy that best suits their project and will have the opportunity to meet and forge alliances with producers, programmers, sales agents and distributors from all around the globe.
In addition, the international jury will give a series of awards to films in post-production. And as a result of the alliance with Marché du Film, two producers will be invited to participate in the Producers Workshop at Cannes Festival, an opportunity to acquire the necessary tools to make their own way in the international film industry.
After 13 editions commanded by BAL’s founders and pioneers Violeta e Ilse, who have established this program that encourages film production in Latin America, this new edition will run under the direction of Agustina Costa Varsi. This is a year of transition that also marks a turning point because in 2017, the BAL will again include works in progress and open its doors to other sectors of the industry that are main concerns in the international film industry: distribution and exhibition.
The process has just started, and with new energies come transformations.
Our main aim will always be to ensure a dynamic platform, one that does not become fossilized but encourages its members to embark on experiences and take risks never considered before.
